Viburnum rhytidophyllum

James veitch sons in 1900. In most parts of its range leatherleaf viburnum is a broadleaf evergreen but in the coolest areas it is only semi evergreen. They are heavily wrinkled textured and yes leathery.

Known in botanical circles as viburnum rhytidophyllum this shrub features leaves with shiny dark green surfaces and a gray felted look beneath. Across 10 20 cm packed with small creamy white flowers are abundantly produced. The leatherleaf viburnum s creamy white blossoms never fail even when the shrub is planted in the shade.

Rhytidophyllum is a large evergreen shrub with glossy conspicuously veined oblong dark green leaves domed clusters of small cream flowers in late spring followed by ovoid red fruit ripening to black. It is either evergreen or deciduous depending on the climate where it is grown. Berries will often persist to the end of december.

Introduced by wilson from cental china for messrs. Bright red berries appear after the flowers fade gradually changing to shiny black. Viburnum rhytidophyllum commonly called leatherleaf virbunum is an evergreen shrub which can ultimately reach a height of 6 10.
