An excellent choice for early spring color this deciduous shrub produces abundant strongly clove scented trumpet shaped golden yellow flowers on its upright but arching branches. Currants grow in long clusters of five or more berries each with shriveled flowers that dangle from the ends. Fruit keeps up to 2 months on the bush.Observe the berry clusters. The sweetly scented flowers are tubular and golden yellow when fresh but turn orangish to violet with age. Hummingbirds feed on nectar and other birds eat the berries.
